From which company do Australians tend to purchase their bars and bumpers? What's the cheapest in your part of the world, considering shipping? Is there an Australian brand? I am in Canada now but there is a chance that I will be back in Malaysia and trying to train while living there. I may want to get some of my own training equipment.

I actually am returning to Malaysia so I will give these web sites consideration. Maybe I can convince a local gym to let me put my stuff there.

Ian,
How are these plates?
I know they are cheap, but what is the quality like?
Is the black the same quality as the coloured?

How do the bars go as well?

Dean,

The USQ Springfield weightlifting club has many of these bumpers and bars. Craig Wegert is the coach at USQ and also a member of this forum. I'll ask him to post his opinion of the gear.

Thanks Ian,
I am tossing up between:
Zhang kong training set
Pendlay Nexgen bearing class bar with whatever plates
JME Garage gym stuff.

Or I dont know if I should go all out and get an eleiko training set.

I am currently competing in Powerlifting and strongman with a whole bunch of olympic lifting throwing in.

I expect to be dropping a whole bunch of 180kg+ push press/jerks in the not too distant future.
I would love the bar to be used for 300kg+ deadlifts too...So I think maybe I should be getting a better bar like the eleiko. I have the money, but I dont want to spend it if I dont need to

It will just be at my home gym, so I dont expect many to use it...but I would like it to last a long time.

G2 Bars and weights are imported from USA.
They are used by CrossFit Club and I also use them in my Weightlifting Club.

They are good value for money.

The bars are strong and straight. Good flex and handle the dropping that comes from our sport.

The weights are good quality for the price. They are far better then the rubber / brass insert bumpers on the market and they are about the same price.

They hold up well to training, I feel the BLACK training G2 is a stronger weight then the colour version, but both types hold up well in heavy use.

The Bars are 28mm Dia with a Black finish. The grip is sharp and firm. The flex is good, and the bar stays straight. The bar is about $445.00 + shipping and the weights vary in price by the amount and type you buy.
Eleiko Bar: $1820.00 + GST

With all rubber bumpers, they last longer and stay in better condition if they are dropped onto a rubber insert platform. (That goes for all the bumpers on the market)

Price comparision: Eleiko Competition Plate- 25kg $638.00+gst, Eleiko Training Plate- 25kg $495.00+gst, ABC - 25kg $330.00+gst, G2 RED - 25kg Bumper - $240.00+gst, G2 Black - 25kg Bumper - $159.05 + gst.

Cheers

Craig Wegert
